KEY FEATURES
A plasma-facing material has to take the heat flux
The surface must not melt, and the heat has to leave underneath.
The tungsten surface is bonded to a copper alloy cooling section that carries the heat away.
Highest melting point
Highest Melting Point
Tungsten 3,422 °C. Used as the surface material taking the plasma heat flux directly.
Low sputtering
Low Sputtering Yield
Erosion under particle bombardment is low, which reduces plasma contamination.
Bond reliability
Joint Reliability
The joint with the cooling section is controlled so it does not separate under thermal cycling.
Melting points by material
Melting point °C. A plasma-facing material needs the highest figure.
Why tungsten
Its high melting point and low erosion make it last longest in the position that meets the plasma.
Bond face control
However strong the surface, if the bond separates the heat cannot leave and damage starts there.

DESIGN PRECISION
Geometry set to your requirements
In a plasma-facing material, geometry and bonding are what distinguish the product.
In the same material, changing the geometry and the bonding method changes the heat removal and the service life.
Machined geometry
Tile thickness and edge geometry are machined as drawn.
Bonding method
Chosen in light of the heat flux and cycling conditions.
Quality criteria
Non-destructive inspection items are set to the specification.
We do not pick a specification, we develop it with you. (Give us the required heat flux and the bonding conditions, and we will work out the geometry with you.)

HANDLING
Handling precautions
These apply to refractory metals in general. Service life depends heavily on how the parts are handled.
01
01
Do not touch the parts with bare hands after unpacking. Oil from fingerprints carbonizes at high temperature and becomes a contaminant.
02
02
The material is weak against impact and bending. Tungsten is brittle at room temperature and can crack if dropped.
03
03
Do not heat above 500°C in air; oxidation accelerates sharply. Always use the parts in a vacuum or an inert atmosphere.
04
04
Avoid rapid heating and cooling. On first use, we recommend pre-heating (aging) at low current.
05
05
Store indoors in a dry place and keep the moisture-barrier packaging intact.
If your installation or operating conditions are unusual, our engineers will review them in advance. Send a drawing or your process conditions and we will start by selecting the right material with you.
