KEY FEATURES
The tip and the tolerance set the service life
Once the tip dulls, contact and machining become unstable.
Tip angle and surface roughness govern the wear rate and contact stability.
Wear resistance · high-temperature strength
Wear Resistance
The geometry does not break down under high temperature and repeated load, which extends the replacement interval.
Diameter tolerance
Diameter Tolerance
Grinding holds the diameter so the clearance at the insertion point stays constant.
Tip geometry
Tip Geometry
Choose from cone, flat or radius. For a probe the contact area changes; for an electrode the discharge gap does.
Melting points by material
Melting point °C. The higher the figure, the longer it holds its shape at high temperature.
Why tolerance matters
Too much clearance and it wobbles and wears faster; too little and it binds under thermal expansion.
Surface roughness
A mirror finish reduces friction and welding, which extends service life.

DESIGN PRECISION
The tip is set to the application
In a pin, diameter tolerance and tip are what distinguish the product.
In the same pin, changing the tip angle and the surface changes the contact and the wear.
Diameter tolerance
Set in light of insertion clearance and thermal expansion together.
Tip geometry
Chosen from cone, flat or radius to suit the application.
Material selection
Tungsten where wear is critical, molybdenum where machinability is.
We do not pick a specification, we develop it with you. (Give us the operating conditions and the insertion specification, and we will work out the tip with you.)

LEAD TIME
Fabrication and Lead Time
This product is made to your drawing. Here is the process, step by step.
STEP 01
Drawing received
Send us the diameter, length, step and taper geometry and service temperature.
Reply within 1 daySTEP 02
Specification review
We review the material and tolerances and propose a grinding method.
2 – 4 daysSTEP 03
Grinding
Centerless grinding holds the diameter and straightness, and the steps are machined.
By agreement, depending on the production scheduleSTEP 04
Inspection · delivery
Diameter and straightness are measured, and the part ships with a test report. Repeat orders to the same drawing skip the review stage.
By agreement, depending on the production scheduleMinimum quantity
From small quantities
Varies with diameter and quantity.
Standard lead time
About 2 – 3 weeks
From drawing approval. Tight tolerances add grinding stages.
Supplied with it

HANDLING
Handling precautions
These apply to refractory metals in general. Service life depends heavily on how the parts are handled.
01
01
Do not touch the parts with bare hands after unpacking. Oil from fingerprints carbonizes at high temperature and becomes a contaminant.
02
02
The material is weak against impact and bending. Tungsten is brittle at room temperature and can crack if dropped.
03
03
Do not heat above 500°C in air; oxidation accelerates sharply. Always use the parts in a vacuum or an inert atmosphere.
04
04
Avoid rapid heating and cooling. On first use, we recommend pre-heating (aging) at low current.
05
05
Store indoors in a dry place and keep the moisture-barrier packaging intact.
If your installation or operating conditions are unusual, our engineers will review them in advance. Send a drawing or your process conditions and we will start by selecting the right material with you.
