KEY FEATURES

Wire diameter and structure decide performance

The more even the diameter, the more stable the heating and the machining.

AlN Heater Cross-Section

The drawing stages and heat treatment history govern the diameter tolerance and the tensile strength.

01

High melting point · low vapor pressure

High Melting Point

Tungsten 3,422 °C. It evaporates little at high temperature, which is why it is used in filaments and heating elements.

02

Wire diameter tolerance

Diameter Tolerance

We supply carefully selected raw material controlled through precision drawing and heat treatment. Where diameter varies widely the heating varies from point to point, so it is managed to a tolerance grade.

03

Surface condition

Surface Finish

Choose from as-drawn, bright or coated. For EDM, an even surface reduces wire breaks.

Melting points by material

Tungsten (W)3422
Molybdenum (Mo)2623
Nickel chromium1400

Melting point °C. The higher the figure, the higher the temperature it withstands.

Why diameter variation is a problem

Resistance rises at the thin point and it breaks there first. Filament life is set by the thinnest point.

Wound and straight

Wound on a spool it can be loaded straight onto a continuous process; cut straight it goes directly into electrodes and support rods.

DESIGN PRECISION

The wire diameter is set to the application

In wire, diameter and surface are what distinguish the product.

Product cross-section

In the same wire, changing the diameter and the surface changes the heat output and the machining stability.

± 0.005mm

Wire diameter tolerance

The tolerance grade is raised where heating uniformity matters.

Spoolor cut

Supply form

Wound for continuous processes, cut straight for electrodes.

W · Mochoice

Material selection

Tungsten where the highest temperature is needed, molybdenum where machinability is.

Tell us the application and the supply form (spool or cut) and we will propose the most suitable diameter and specification.

LEAD TIME

Fabrication and Lead Time

Here is the process for supplying wire made to your drawing and specification.

STEP 01

Drawing received

Send us the material, wire diameter, surface grade and supply form. If you have no drawing, the service conditions alone are enough to start.

Reply within 1 day

STEP 02

Specification review

We review the diameter tolerance, surface grade and spool specification and propose a supply form. Where useful we propose a material change as well.

2 – 4 days

STEP 03

Material selection · processing

We select raw material that meets the required diameter and tolerance and process it as spool-wound or cut straight.

By agreement, depending on the production schedule

STEP 04

Inspection · delivery

Wire diameter and tensile values are measured, and the part ships with a test report. Repeat orders to the same drawing skip the review stage.

By agreement, depending on the production schedule

Minimum quantity

From small quantities

Varies with diameter and length. Custom work is possible in small quantities.

Standard lead time

About 2 – 3 weeks

From drawing approval. Fine diameters or special processing add process stages.

Supplied with it

Test report

A report with wire diameter and tensile measurements is sent with the delivery.

HANDLING

Handling precautions

These apply to refractory metals in general. Service life depends heavily on how the parts are handled.

01

01

Do not touch the parts with bare hands after unpacking. Oil from fingerprints carbonizes at high temperature and becomes a contaminant.

02

02

The material is weak against impact and bending. Tungsten is brittle at room temperature and can crack if dropped.

03

03

Do not heat above 500°C in air; oxidation accelerates sharply. Always use the parts in a vacuum or an inert atmosphere.

04

04

Avoid rapid heating and cooling. On first use, we recommend pre-heating (aging) at low current.

05

05

Store indoors in a dry place and keep the moisture-barrier packaging intact.

If your installation or operating conditions are unusual, our engineers will review them in advance. Send a drawing or your process conditions and we will start by selecting the right material with you.
