OVERVIEW
Grinding with a diamond wheel is the most common way to point an end or true a cylinder. Its accuracy is high and its surface finish excellent, so it is used for welding and EDM electrodes.

Polishing removes roughness with far finer particles and brings up a shine. On sputtering targets and evaporation sources, any unevenness or scratch on the surface prevents the film from depositing evenly, so we finish them to a mirror.
